Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an integrated system of primary health care. It has an uninterrupted history of use and development in China and other parts of East Asia dating back over five thousand years.
TCM takes a holistic approach to understanding disease processes and focuses on the prevention of illness as much as the treatment of illnesses. Diagnosis considers the presenting signs and symptoms along with subtle sub clinical imbalances, general health and wellbeing.
According to TCM theory, when healthy, an abundant supply of qi (pronounced chee) or “life energy” flows unimpeded through the meridians. These meridians are a network of channels that flow through the human body in well-mapped pathways. Through correct diagnosis, and the skillful application of acupuncture and herbal medicine, disruptions to the flow of qi in the meridians can be rectified and health and wellbeing will be restored.
